N5XU participated in the ARRL September VHF QSO Party conducted from 1800UTC 23 January 1998 to 0300UTC 25 January 1999. We operated in the limited multioperator class, with KA5WSS and KM5FA operating. We were active on 50MHz, 144MHz, 222MHz, and 432MHz.
The only notable thing about this weekend was that over 5% of our QSOs were on CW, which is a first, I think. Unfortunately, at least two QSOs we could have worked on CW were impossible because the rover in question didn't do code. Otherwise, conditions were very flat. I felt like I was in an RF pit all weekend. Five of the closest grids to us accounted for 82% of all QSOs. On Sunday, I was only able to find one new contact over a seven hour period. We also lost use of our 2M preamp, as the relay for it kept chattering and I was afraid I'd blow it out. It's a contest like this that makes me wonder why I'm not out doing a bicycle rover effort or something! (DE KM5FA)
